The Pinewood Derby was Saturday morning. It was so much fun. Aaron could hardly contain himself he was so excited. We stood in the line for the them to weigh his car and to make sure that the car would go straight and it had BS wheels and whatever else they were looking for. Then they took his car and we waited for them to call his group. It wasn't long and it was his turn. He went and waited for the cars to start going down the track. The first race he took first place! But it didn't count because 2 cars collided with each other so they redid it. The second race he took 2nd place and then they raced again. Again he took 2nd place. He won 2 red ribbons for taking 2nd place. He was a little disappointed that he didn't win a trophy but I told him there was always next year.
After we got home he told me that he was going to tell grandma to build a pinewood track so that he could race her cars. (uncle Nathans cars)

I think my heart stopped beating........

Last night I was sitting in my chair reading my book (already have a head start on my February book) its not a scary book by any means. Its actually about an orphanage over by Ft. Worth that started a football team and how the underdog wins (I'm only on chapter 5 but that seems to be the way it is going) So I am reading and reading when all of a sudden my back door flys open! I was right beside it. My heart started racing a hundred miles a minute as I looked over my shoulder. I thought to myself, I must have left Jack outside and he the door wasn't latched and he pushed it open. But there was no Jack (or Angel for that matter) they were sleeping on my bed! I looked at it for a minute waiting for someone to walk in but no one ever did.
It turned out to be the wind (very windy outside) and the door wasn't latched all the way like I thought. For a minute there though I was thinking about the possible UFO sightings in Stephensville (or whatever the name of the town was) and the conversation I had with my mom about the little boy in the corner (have to save that one for another time if you are interested) and about the time this past summer when Matt and I were driving home from South Dakota and as he was fast asleep and I was driving (in the middle of the night) I heard someone yell from the back seat but there was no one there! (scared the dickens out of me) After I shut and locked the door I put my book down and ended up going to bed (even though my heart still pounded a little bit!)

Power to the People

I just finished this book and I give it 5 out of 5 stars. It was so informative. There was a few things that I read that I thought....that's exactly how I feel. And there were a few things that I thought....well I didn't know that. I defiantly feel more empowered after reading this book.

(and I finished my first book in my book a month resolution)

I think some people wonder how I ever made it this far

I guess I wonder that also when things are all said and done. I'm not sure if it is because I grew up in small town America or if I really am as naive as I come across.
Friday evening I was the only one home and there was a knock at the door. I put the mean dogs up and opened the door. It was a man named Bryan. He worked for Master Grill and he was going through the neighborhood selling meat. All types of meat. Beef, to pork, to poultry, to seafood. You name it and he had it. A huge freezer full of meat on the back of his truck. I went out side with him and he was showing me the stuff that he had and he gave me a pamphlet of the prices. Well I laughed a little bit when I looked at the prices......$339.00 for a case of beef. I said "yeah right, this is the poor part of town. I can't afford that for meat.....especially when I really don't even care for beef!" We went on with our conversation and then it hit me, I couldn't buy anything from him anyway because I had absolutely no freezer room. To which he said that he is a master at arranging freezers and if he could get it in the freezer he would cut me a huge deal.
Someone to rearrange my freezer......Absolutely! I invited him right into my house and we walked out to the garage and he rearranged my freezer (I must admit he did an awesome job!) so i went ahead and bought a case of meat from him (and no I didn't even pay half the price that was originally asked) and we brought it inside and he put it all in my freezer for me with me, aunt Skris and Kaylee watching. He was very funny and witty and I enjoyed his company for the 30 minutes that I knew him.
Matt came home and I told him about it to which he shook his head and said "don't you know you don't buy meat off a truck......it could be bad!" Well I didn't think about that. Here was this nice guy selling me meat....why would he want to sell me bad meat? (If I happen to end up really sick or dead please remember his name was Bryan and the pamphlet is on my fridge and find him!)
Since Friday I have told a few other people my story about the guy with the meat truck and the deal I got on it. People have been a little mortified with me. A couple have actually said to me "don't you know that is how serial killers work! They get you to trust them and then the next thing you know you are dead on the floor and your house is robbed!" This absolutely didn't even cross my mind. All I knew was that I was getting all this great meat and I got some guy to rearrange my freezer in a manner that I can actually find things. I thought I was getting the better end of the deal and in actuality I did but it could have gone way wrong!

Did I tell you about my New Years resolutions?

I don't think I did but one of them is to read a book a month. If I go over 12 that is fine but to at least read one a month. I have almost finished book #1 so look for a review coming soon.

I think we are getting sick

I've had an itchy throat/ears and Aaron has a cough.
Dangit, I hate it when we get sick.
I am medicating us already so hopefully we will be able to nip this in the bud before it actually starts.

National Treasure

We went and watched this movie last night. It was pretty good. If I were you I would wait until it is out on DVD but I still liked it.
It was nice seeing Mt Rushmore and Sylvan Lake in the movie. kaylee asked me if this was a true story to which i told her no but she still thought it was exciting to see our home state in it. (as did I)

Opthamologist

Aaron went to his annual opthamologist appointment the other day. The doctor said "looks good, see ya next year." Good news once again.

UFO's.......scaryness!

The only thing I am afraid of in this world is aliens and now people are talking about a possible sighting......WHAT!
It has been all over the news that a lot of people saw something strange in the sky in Stephensville Texas. Not exactly sure where that is but it has to be pretty close right?!?!?!
They said the sky was orange and it was about a mile long and there was no noise......Oh my goodness gracious.
The government said that it was a air force testing but how could so many people be wrong? Its not like they had some sort of town meeting coming up with a plot to fool the world right.
If I end up missing for a few days and then show back up with no memory of what happened to me please refer back to this blog entry.

weekend update

Been a while since I did one of these......sorry about that.
Our weekend went good. Filled with birthday parties and CCD is back in session.
First was Emilys birthday party at Chuck E Cheese. It was nice. I'm not a huge fan of Chuck E. Cheese but the kids had fun. After that Kaylee and I went around the neighborhood selling GS cookies. She is doing pretty good but the last couple years have by far been better. We have to hit the neighborhood again this weekend because a lot of people weren't home or they asked her to come back when their "wives" were home.
Sunday was the first day back in CCD. It was hard getting up but we did it. We went to church afterwards and I am ashamed to admit I fell asleep. Normally Father Bob keeps me enchanted but I had a headache so I was rubbing my temples while he was doing his and I did doze off. I think it was only for a few minutes but still, how embarrassing! After that we headed to Donettes so we could ride together to go to Navyas party. Build-a-bear.....tons of fun! The kids each picked out a new stuffed animal (bear for Kay and puppy for Aaron) Kaylees is named Miley (naturally) and Aarons is named Underdog but she is a girl. Underdog and Herbie (his original Build-a-Bear) are married now. And Underdog is dressed in camo clothes with roller skates for shoes. He has quite the imagination that little boy of mine.
When we got home Matt and Jeff had just pulled up for their trip to Tulsa. He got Kasey Kahnes autograph and had a really good time. Glad he is home though so things can maybe get back to normal.
That was our weekend! Very busy....can't wait to have a day off.

100%

Yeah for Kaylee. She received 100% on her state capital test. Next is the naming of the states.....wish her luck!

yucky mucky noodle mess

You are not going to believe what just happened to me! It is so nasty and funny that I had to log back online and write a post about it so I could tell you.
Kaylee and I were doing our nightly chores (normally Aaron has to help but because Kaylee is so slow at doing her homework that he was able to skip it tonight because I was still waiting on Kaylee to finish up. She choose to sweep and put toys away so I was stuck with doing the dishes. I unloaded the dish washer and reloaded it. After that I looked in the fridge to see if there was anything I needed to throw away....naturally I found something (a week ago I made a Rachael Ray recipe that still had some leftovers.....lets face it, it has been in the fridge for a week.....no one is going to eat it) I took it out and stuffed it all down the garbage disposal. I'm not sure if I stuffed to much or what because it started to back up. There was this yucky mucky noodle mess swirling all throughout the bottom of the sink and it wasn't going down. I stood there and thought to myself "what am I going to do? I don't think a plunger will work on a garbage disposal. Should I call Kevin? What do I do?" I shut the disposal off and thought I need to shove my hand down there and dig out what is plugging it up......you know as well as I that thought didn't stay with me to long. I started to gag at the thought of it......I shoved down my hand scrubber and swished it all around. I didn't feel like there was anything there. I took it out, turned the water on again and then turned the disposal on again. It swirled in its mucky way going round and round. I shut the water off and just watched the water swirl. The next thing I know the other side of the sink exploded with watered down noodles! I had noodles all over the sink, the counter, the floor (which Angel started to lick up) and dare I say ME!!!!! I started to laugh. I knew if I didn't laugh I was going to cry! Watered down noodles were everywhere! Kaylee came over and looked, laughed a little , then told me gross and walked away! (a lot of help she was) I believe that I got it all cleaned up in the kitchen but just to make sure I am clean I will be taking a shower!

the imagination of 6 year olds

Aaron and I were talking tonight and he told me that he is having to trick his friends John and Court. I asked him why and he told me that John thinks he is his brother and Court wants to borrow Underdog. I wasn't quite sure what to say to him so I just said that maybe John wants him to be his "pretend" brother. Aaron told me no that he thinks they are real brothers but John thinks he is a vampire and vampires aren't real.....again I didn't know what to say so I said to him that his friend Annalese isn't real and she is just part of his imagination so maybe it would be ok if John thought he was vampire. He gave me a "you don't know what you are talking about" look and said no vampires aren't real and I don't want to be his brother.

Decorations

We finally took all of our Christmas decorations down. The 3 Kings have made it to Jesus so they are all down. Thank goodness! We were the last people in our neighborhood to take our lights down outside. I feel good that we waited this long because in the past I have cleaned it all up the day after but I tell ya I was a little tired of looking at everything.
Now I am slowly putting all of my "normal" decorations out. I might have it all done by Christmas.

throwing pots

Kaylee and I went to a pottery class with our GS Troop. Lots of fun for all of us. We learned how to throw pots and we also made a coil pot. Our instructor is going to do the rest. (letting it dry, fire and glaze and then let us know when it is ready) I will take some pictures when we get them back so you can see just how well we did.

Happy New Year

Another year has come and gone......welcome 2008.
We spent the night bringing in the new year with our friends Eileen and Kenny. It was quite the party. Delicious food and the alcohol flowing. I personally didn't drink that much. I had a pinacolada and a 1/2 but the rest of the time I either drank coke or water. At midnight I toasted with a glass of champagne but didn't care for that to much.....just let it touch my lips and then I dumped it. Matt drank Sam Adams all night but he by all means was sober the entire night also. The kids had a blast.....all over Eileens house playing hide and seek and dress up and whatever else they did upstairs. At midnight they all put on hats that said Happy New Year and blew into the air horn blowers and there was the little pop firework type things also. I am positive a blast was had by all.
We left about 1:15 that morning and slept in today. That is going to make it quite difficult for the kids to get up for school tomorrow but I'm pretty sure they will be ok. They are both ready to get back into their routines. There is something to be said for a routine.....a feeling of comfort maybe when you know exactly what you are going to be doing.
I hope you all had a fantastic new year!
